Project Outline: Work Placement at the BPI – British Recorded Music Industry – Anti Piracy Unit

Date: July 2014

Work completed: Understanding and implementing the BPI’s Anti-Piracy strategy, identifying and evidencing infringing websites. evidencing infringing links to send to Google for de-listing, researching apps on the App Store and Google Play that allow access to blocked websites. Represented the BPI at the International IP Summit 2014 in Westminster.

Outcomes: Enhanced awareness of the harm caused to the British music industry as a result of the sharing of illegal music files as well as a greater understanding of Copyright Law. Created custom search engines for web crawling purposes for links to illegal music files. Represented the BPI at the International IP Summit 2014 and gained a greater perspective on Intellectual Property and how it can be protected.
